Spirit Horse was founded in 1989 by Shivam O'Brien and Erika Indra. Spirit Horse is the best place to encounter the rich mix of Shivam's insistence for a place where enlightenment, deep culture, rebellious fun and authentic being, flourish and stamp and strut - with humour, precision seriousness and style.
Shivam O'Brien Storyteller, carpenter, ritual poet, ceremonialist, Enlightenment Intensive master, tribal leader, writer, pilgrim and lover of the woods and the wild.
Shivam exemplifies the Celtic tradition, and brings a reverence for indigenous and spiritual traditions from anywhere that might loan us enough time honoured wisdom to become real people again. Steeped in story, ritual and the wood smoke and earthiness of ancient ways, he is the originator of these courses and this unique camp and settlement.
Shivam has worked with men and women and children in community and retreat for over twenty five years. He brings together wisdom gleaned from shamanic rooted culture and Indian and Buddhist sources. His style is relaxed, wild, adventurous, challenging, welcoming and fun - polished over many years in service to the teachings and ceremonials of East and West. Some of his teachers are legendary.
"Honed over many years leading retreats, wilderness and ritual workshops, his command of ceremonial space and eloquence, sets eyes, ears and dreams aflame. Passionate and compassionate, a mighty stallion of vulnerability, bearing the war-drum for the Old Ways; he inspires a respect and a loyalty, rare in any time."
Erika Indra Erika is a Hungarian, naturally gifted, psychic and counsellor.
Her particular gentle compassion, generosity and fierce kindness are evident. Her earthy, womanly sensuality and sensitivity manifest spontaneously and unpredictably as a mysterious, ruthless and often comical force. She is a destroyer of pretence and logic, bearing forth with an intuitive awareness that cuts, prophesises and knows, honed with ancient mother wit and wisdom.
Paloma's role has evolved since the beginnings of Spirit Horse - arriving a young poet and becoming a ceremonialist for Spirit Horse and women’s gatherings. As a passionate founder of the community, she brings a precise insight into harmonious communal living and a compassionate understanding for human relationships in general.
Paloma's vision for the world is fed by her Spanish inheritance and a deep desire to cultivate the skills needed for true culture to blossom on this earth. Her vision for the community originated the Spirit Horse Girl's Camp and has been holding it ever since, inspiring and empowering a loyal gathering of young warrior maidens.
Together with Erika Indra, Paloma is a founder of the White Buffalo Women's Lodge a tribute to the joy of women working in true companionship for something bigger that themselves.
