TRIBAL VOICES

This section is composed of contributions from the Spirit Horse tribe. These are not necessarily the views of The Foundation, but of those who participate in Spirit Horse events and are part of the community. This is an evolving section, so if you wish to contribute please email Ian at community@spirithorse.co.uk
Many different people come along to Spirit Horse events or are invited as special guests by the community.

In 2005 the Cor Meibion Blaenporth (Blaenporth Male Voice Choir), of which the late and great Dic yr Hendre was a member, visited us for a meal and concert in which they sang to us and were sung to by us. Dic recited one of his poems. It was a very moving experience. Below is the poem (provided by Fiona) which Dic wrote to be read at the Chairing of the Bard Ceremony at the National Eisteddfod in Bala this August, as he was too ill to attend and lead the ceremonies. He died that same month. May his soul be tied into the bonds of life for evermore.

Hiraeth am y Bala
Y mae unlle ym Mhenllyn
lle'r wyf fi'n myfi fy hun,
yn gweithio cragen pennill
mewn chwys maith bob yn saith sill
wrth ryw gymell a chellwair
â hen gnawes gormes gair.
Ac yn ardal y Bala
ers yn hir mae 'na dir da
i'r brid a fu'n hir barhau
i garu plethu geiriau,
a'r cymeriad brafado
yn cyfri'n frenin y fro.
A dyma fro f'atgofion
o'm cynhaeaf brafiaf, bron -
fy urddo'n fardd yn fy oed
yn angerdd balchder iengoed.
Ond mae cael gormod clodydd
yn gynnar, yn difa'r dydd,
a rhyw wàg o eiriogwr
yw eilun serch Bala'n si^wr.
Ac yn naear yr Aran
lle mae llawer ceinder cân,
lle mae'r ffair yn llamu'r ffyrdd
mae'r Pethe'n bethe bythwyrdd.
Pe cawn, fe awn i heno
i erwau ffraeth yr hoff fro
a'm nef fyddai camu'n ôl
yn enwog - anhaeddiannol.

What does Spirit Horse mean to us?

As well as maintaining the Spirit Horse website (which is my offering to the community), I've also been attending Spirit Horse events and been part of the community since 2002. My first introduction was in at the deep end in Sacred Man:Sacred Woman. It shook my very foundations, and shortly afterwards I signed up for the One Year course, which again blew my world apart. For me, Spirit Horse gave me the chance to see my wild (or natural!) side and to experience my true self. I discovered the magic of story, the power of ritual, and the joy of serving a community. I also met my future wife at The Cauldron of Plenty in 2003 and we are now very happily married and in 2010, we were joined by a beautiful daughter. Beware, sometimes Spirit Horse may give you more than you bargained for! Blessings, Ian.
